Bolster Springs

GENUINE PARTS

Hendrickson Bolster Springs unique design and high grade rubber boost performance by withstanding heavy loads in rugged applications. In the event that replacement springs are required, Hendrickson supplies the same genuine components for service as installed on the original suspensions. These components have the same design, construction and performance, which helps ensure high end user satisfaction and peak system performance. Correct setup and regular inspections are key in maintaining optimum bolster spring and suspension operation.

HAULMAAX ® Bolster Springs ■ HAULMAAX bolster springs work in conjunction with the load springs and shim plates to provide outstanding ride quality in both loaded and unloaded conditions ■ Load spring shims can be adjusted for different empty body weights, making HAULMAAX suspensions another ideal choice for trucks being used in varying applications TIE-BAR DESIGN

■ While mandatory for 46,000 pound capacity suspensions, an optional tie-bar version is also available for 40,000 pound capacity suspensions ■ Provides greater bolster column stiffness ■ Improves suspension performance even when axles are misaligned ■ Remains consistent with the ride quality and stability of the original design

HN ® Bolster Springs ■ Proprietary rubber compounds are used to provide ideal articulation and ride quality ■ As payload increases, the bolster springs continue to compress until the load springs engage. This produces a secondary system stiffness that provides extra ride stability under loaded conditions ■ HN bolster springs absorb vertical road inputs as well as fore / aft shock to deliver superior driver comfort and handling

Bolster Springs

GENUINE PARTS

Shear and Compression Bolster Spring Loads The shear load component enables high suspension articulation and a lower unladen suspension spring rate. The compression load component allows the suspension to carry heavy loads.Trust genuine Hendrickson bolster springs to deliver these benefits and enable HN and HAULMAAX suspensions to operate and perform as designed. For optimum performance, HN and HAULMAAX suspensions require a soft spring rate when unloaded and a stiff spring rate when loaded.Typical competitor urethane bolster springs do not meet Hendrickson’s spring rate criteria, and their use will void any applicable Hendrickson warranty. In addition, competitor urethane bolsters can degrade ride quality and create excessive stress on the suspension. Hendrickson does not authorize the use of competitor urethane components in any HN or HAULMAAX suspension system.

End Bushing Radial Spring Rate is a key bushing durability and performance characteristic that describes how a bushing stands up to radial loading and deflection. Hendrickson bar pin end bushings are designed to exhibit a higher radial spring rate. The radial load‑carrying capacity of a bushing is directly related to its correct radial stiffness. A bushing with the correct stiffness can carry more load and / or live longer than a will‑fit bushing not designed with the ideal radial spring rate for the load-carrying capacity.

Radial Spring Rate

Axial Spring Rate

Axial Spring Rate is a key bushing performance characteristic that describes how a bushing responds to the loading that can cause walkout. Bushings need to be resistant to walkout in order to maximize durability. Hendrickson bar pin end bushings exhibit a higher axial spring rate.

Progressive and Auxiliary Load Springs

GENUINE PARTS

Hendrickson Load Springs used on the HAULMAAX and HN rear suspensions easily adjust to the load for an enhanced combination of empty ride quality and loaded stability. To help ensure high end-user satisfaction and peak system performance, Hendrickson supplies the same genuine components for service requirements as installed on the original suspensions with the same design, construction and performance. HAULMAAX

Progressive Load Spring (PLS) ■ When slightly engaged in the unloaded condition provides excellent ride quality ■ When fully engaged in the loaded condition it provides optimized loaded stability ■ Eliminates shim adjustments for most applications

HN Auxiliary Load Spring ■ In the loaded condition the extra wide bolster spring centers and auxiliary springs provide exceptional stability for demanding applications such as refuse trucks, concrete mixers and dumps. ■ Load spring shims can be adjusted to help optimize roll stability

Unloaded Condition — In the empty condition, the diagonally mounted rubber bolster springs act in shear and compression to help provide optimum deflection for outstanding ride quality. Bolster springs absorb vertical road inputs and fore / aft shock. Loaded Condition — As payload increases, bolster springs compress and engage the load spring.

As payload increases, the bolster springs compress and increase in stiffness, while maintaining excellent ride quality. With higher loading, the load spring fully engages for additional stability. ■ A well maintained load spring helps provide increased bolster service life.

TRAAX ROD ® Torque Rods

GENUINE PARTS

TRAAX ROD ® Performance — Up to *five times the performance life of conventional double shot bushings and similar performance of ball and socket torque rods, with better energy absorption, delivering superior bushing retention and longer component life for heavy- and severe‑duty applications. Explore the TRAAX ROD site www.traaxrods.com for more benefits, information and a torque rod length conversion calculator.

5x 5x

Heavy-duty — Recommended for 40,000 lb. to 52,000 lb. capacity suspensions in most vocational applications. Severe-duty – Recommended for 60,000 lb. to 70,000 lb. capacity suspensions. Also available for 40,000 lb. to 52,000 lb. capacity suspensions for even longer service intervals.

5x PERFORMANCE LIFE

TRAAX ROD BODY ■ Fabricated rod body works in conjunction with our proprietary bushings to meet a large footprint for heavy loads and energy absorption from high articulation and side load events. ■ Offers easy and inexpensive flexibility to create a variety of torque rod lengths. Length variety significantly reduces the need for shims which can compromise the connection integrity if not secured properly or used with correct shims. ■ One-piece design supports uptime by removing and replacing with the original one-piece length for an accurate fit the first time.

TRAAX ROD BUSHINGS ■ Curled outer metal casing places rubber in pre‑compression mode to “harness” the energy and perform at its highest peak, providing best‑in‑class durability and performance. ■ Proprietary rubber material helps reduce cost of ownership by absorbing horizontal, vertical and torsional forces for long component life. ■ High strength bond of rubber to inner metal eliminates friction between the inner metal and rubber, minimizing bushing wear and increasing component life cycle. ■ Hardened steel bar pins and taper pins deliver increased resistance against wear and abrasion to extend the service intervals of the component.

* Based on internal testing of bushing walkout, retention and durability. Actual product performance may vary depending on component and vehicle configuration, operation, service and other factors.

Torque Rods and Bushings

GENUINE PARTS

Hendrickson Bushings** — whether the application is an on-highway or a severe-duty vocational truck, Hendrickson offers the right bushings for the job. Bushings are offered in various straddle and taper pin measurement options. XTRB ™ BONDED CONVENTIONAL XTRB Bushings are the right solution for extreme applications.

Bonded bushings utilize specialized chemical reactions during the in-mold curing process to physically bond the inner metal to the rubber and help extend the bushing’s service life. Bonding the rubber to the inner metal eliminates… ■ Friction-generated heat to improve the life of the bushing ■ Detrimental effects caused by rubber-to-metal slip often exhibited in conventional bushing construction

Conventional bushings are an economical alternative to Hendrickson’s XTRB and bonded bushings for ULTRA ROD PLUS and with the outer metal sleeve, make re-bushing simpler.

■ Uses a combination of chemical bonded rubber, hardened steel bar pin, and a curled steel casing to vastly improve durability ■ XTRB provides a very high level of axial retention and an incredibly high amount of walk-out resistance while maintaining the performance of the suspension ■ Hendrickson uses advanced fatigue testing methods to measure the performance of rubber bushings. The XTRB bushing has proven to last up to *five times longer than other rubber torque rod bushings in engineering tests.
